Sulfates
Let’s Talk About Sulfates
Sulfates are cleansing agents commonly used in shampoos, body washes, and facial cleansers. Their job is to remove oil, buildup, and impurities from the hair and scalp. Are they bad for your hair? The real answer is yes and no - it depends on the type of sulfate and your individual needs.
There are certain sulfates that work beautifully in everyday hair care. For example, Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) is a milder sulfate that effectively cleanses without being overly stripping. It’s ideal for normal to oily scalps and for people who need a deeper, more refreshing cleanse. This is exactly why our Biotin Shampoo uses Sodium Laureth Sulfate. It delivers a clean, balanced wash while supporting scalp health and hair strength - without leaving the hair feeling dry or brittle.
On the other hand, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a stronger, more aggressive cleanser. While it can be effective in certain situations, it’s often too harsh for daily use and can lead to dryness and scalp irritation. That’s why we intentionally avoid it in our products.
When Should You Go Sulfate-Free?
Sulfate-free shampoos have become very popular - but the key is understanding when they’re truly beneficial.
If you struggle with dry hair, dry scalp, or sensitivity, sulfate-free formulas can be a great choice. These shampoos rely on gentler cleansing agents, such as betaines, which are often derived from coconut oil. They cleanse the scalp in a softer way while helping the hair retain moisture.
This is the foundation of our Miracle Argan Oil Shampoo. It’s sulfate-free, deeply nourishing, and ideal for clients who need hydration, softness, and protection - especially in dry or high-altitude environments.
